Delving Deeper on Ballot Access

Why support open ballots to minor party and independent candidates?
If you're not a Libertarian, you might be tempted to overlook
this. I hope you resist that temptation. What this illustrates is the
lack of fairness and transparency in our electoral system.
While
admittedly not as blatant or as perverse, it is only different from the
system in places such as Zimbabwe, for instance, in degree of abuse.
The bottom line is that in America, just as in various countries known
for electoral abuses, the parties in power abuse their power to keep
the opposition out.
In the United States, where choice is nearly an unwritten ammendment to the Constitution (eg. number of cable channels) why is that we still tolerate monopoly in our most important decisions and choices. What's in open ballots for us? More choices, better candidates and better parties as a result of open competition. The better the candidates, the better the parties, the easier it is to compete on a level playing field for political power... the better our government. The better our country.
